Vodka martini for me please!
Sometimes simplicity is perfection!
Best I ever had was a dry Ketel One vodka Martini with a Gorgonzola stuffed olive...
I encounter more bad ones, than good ones. Unfortunately alot of places use a cheap vodka, resulting in a dire taste. I'm glad I read "good quality" in your recipe. Excellent post.
I love a good martini, extra olives please!
Tis the season! Cheers!
Dirty Grey Goose martini!! Love it!
this sounds very good!I like Martini!
One for me please!

Oh Martini!! Great for xmas parties!
Cheers Velva!
I have to tell you a story about my niece, Lilibet. Some years ago she was living in Japan and just in conversation in an email said, "I have to stop drinking Martinis! Because I tend to talk with my hands and keep splashing others with my drink." Thanks for reminding us of a great old Classic Cocktail.
Great pic of a classic martini. I have tried, oh have I tried to drink a classic, but I just can't. An apple martini or any other flavor and I can throw it down :D
I love you to death, and in no way do i want to come off snooty and judgmental. You listed a martini recipe, no doubt. BUT
A CLASSIC martini has a definition. It is always gin, never vodka. You do have the measurement correct, and you are correct that it is never shaken, only stirred (James Bond was ordering a watered down martini, shaking breaks the ice, and adds more water to your drink).
The garnish is always an Olive. The brine in an olive adds a flavor that makes a classic martini a classic martini. Never a twist and I can not possibly imagine any martini with lime.
There are similar drinks, like a vodka martini, gibson, gimlet, dirty martini, Rob Roy (my personal favorite), Manhattan, etc that are made similar to a classic martini, and are all good. But, they are not classic martinis.
I am so ashamed for writing all this, but I bartended for a bit, and drink more than a bit. Some people really do care about pop culture changing the recipe for a "classic" martini even a little bit.
I like mine with Ketal One and very dirty. This is a classic martini and the rest that call themvselves martinis are wannabe's ;-)
Does one ever forget a perfect martini, Velva? I like Bombay. And absolutely an olive.
Buff, Katherine and I will be hanging out in the bar sipping on our little dirty secrets, LOL! This is like dejaveau my dear!
I'll have what you're having, Velva!
I like olive juice in mine!
What time are cocktails being served? It looks like a "perfect" martini to me... I prefer Vodka to Gin.
One word for ya, m'lady: Chopin! :-)
Velva these are recipes I adore. Simple, beautiful cocktails and drinks.

Hi there, thanks for the comment you left in my blog. Thanks for visiting and I hope you'll come by again! I am a bit of a foodie too. Yes, I prepped to help with costs and menu planning but also to save time. Now that it is just me, some days I don't feel like cooking even if I feel like eating, so this has been helping so far. Hope to continue. Going to take a peek through your blog now. :)
oh wow looks great and love the snap
Thanks for visiting sjgourmet! I do love a good martini and my husband, like yours is always the designated bartender at our parties.I hope to see you again on my site.
nothing beats a good martini!!
I had one of these last night at happy hour! Only difference was the it was a blue cheese stuffed olive (DELICIOUS)!
Just gorgeous! I am a traditional martini girl. Sometimes I'll get a craving for a sweet creation, but usually it is either a Bombay Sapphire or Grey Goose martini for me. The extra touch of a blue cheese olive is my favorite.
Is it 5 o'clock anywhere? Only 7:30 am here and I want a drink now. Ha, ha!
My favorite - and with gin! Stirred - like Bond, James Bond. ha ha ha
We are martiniholics ! and the Applietini happens to be my favorite...followed by the Pomtini : ) ...however...every now and then I like to go classic like this...you've got me craving one now Velva..and its just 11am here ...giggles...! : )
PS : its me Nat
gosh that's pretty!
if i wasnt pregnant, i could drink 10 of those! its such a tease LOL :)::dreaming of martini's::
One. Vodka. Stirred. At home near my couch.
Love the classic martini...specially with extra olives...cheers :-)
Nice picture!
I have never had a martini. If I did, I had 12 of them and forgot it ever happened.
great photo! this looks great for a holiday party!
I love a good gin martini! Your photo is wonderful!
Beautiful photo! I have gotten to like all kinds of martinis!! (grins) Had a Cranberry martini last weekend...YUM!
A martini is just what we need, ease the pain of Saturday. We have been getting condolence calls all week! I am sure it's a lot easier to be a Gator fan in San Diego than in Tallahassee

Velva! Martini's are my fav! I'm totally old school and therefore, gin it must be! Hendricks gin is the only way to go. No garnish to muddy the incredible subtle flavors of this wonderful gin. If you give it a try let me know!!!
When I imbibe, I like both vodka and gin, so it must be the vermouth that throws me off. I'm going to try this again though because I love the glass!!
Martinis are timeless. THanks for the recipe!
Excellent! I love the picture!
Beautiful picture! I've actually never had a martini before. I'm not a huge fan of the taste of alcohol (unless hidden by fruity icy drinks), but your drink looks so classy!
We love martinis at our house. Straight up or on the rocks - we love them both. Gorgeous picture.

I am such a wuss when it comes to martinis. Give me a key lime one any day. Yup, I'm a girly girl. Ah ha. I will, however, kill the olives while the hubs sucks down the vodka. ah ha ha
Velva you ROCK! Vodka please and shaken not stirred! ;)
I feel so James Bondish when I have a martini!
Ha! Nope. Haven't forgotten.

Nothing like a good martini!
I take it the vermouth in the ingredients is just for the sake of appearances? :-)
I could do with one of these right about now!
I don't drink martinis.... but the picture of this one could change my mind... gorgeous!!! An older man once told me the "Immaculate Conception Martini" was popular in the 1920's. The recipe? Pour chilled gin into a martini glass, find a sunbeam and put a bottle of vermouth in the path of the light.
