Praline French Toast Casserole
Serves 8
Recipe from: Paula Deen
Ingredients:
8 eggs
1-1/2 cups half-and-half
1/3 cup maple syrup
sugar
10 to 12 slices soft bread, 1-inch thick
Topping:
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2/3 cup maple syrup
2 cups chopped pecans
Directions:
1. Generously butter a 13-by-9-inch casserole dish.
2. Mix the eggs, half-and-half, maple syrup, and sugar in a large bowl. Place the bread slices (note: I cubed day old French bread) in the prepared casserole dish and cover with the egg mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and let soak overnight in the refrigerator.
3. Preheat the oven to 350F. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator.
4. Make the topping: Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the sugar and maple syrup and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in pecans. Pour the mixture over the bread and bake for 45 to 55 minutes. Allow to sit for 10 minutes before serving.
Enjoy!

Velva, nothing says Sunday Brunch than a decadent rich casserole and you & Paula have certainly have met that standard here. This French toast sounds incredible! As a southerner, any thing with pecans is a must-try ~ thanks...

Is it me or can I smell that in my kitchen right now? I would be in trouble because that looks so good, you would be slapping my hands and yelling at me to get out of it till it was served!
Oh my, that looks good. I may have to make that this weekend.
The whole layer of pecans atop makes the whole casserole a class of its own.
Mmmmmm, nice idea.
Velva, this looks amazing! I can almost smell it!
Velva, I'm pretty sure that you have decadence pretty well covered in this fabulous post. WOW!!
I can't do the pecans (allergic) but the rest of this looks great, especially using half and half.
I prefer savoury breakfasts usually, but I would love this for dessert! It's like a bread and butter pudding for angels!
Looks fantastic. A good breakfast is such a treat.
That looks so good! I could go for a slice right now for breakfast!
Absolutely delish! I've been staring at it, so I better say something. Thanks Velva.

Hmm ironically enough I got whole bag of pecans sent to me... I wonder where those came from? Thank you for the inspiration and the supplies!
Tried it...it was incredible!!!!! Thanks.
This is one of my favorite French Toast recipes.
Stop by my blog, I've left something for you there!!

This is a must make for my daughter and I!!
All I can think is, me oh my. The rest is silence. And drooling.
but, how much sugar? and, brown or white sugar? thanks
\
Looks amazing! Just wondering how much sugar you added? You've modified Paula's recipe a bit, since hers calls for twice the amount of liquid, and she also adds cinnamon and nutmeg. Did you change the amount of sugar as well?
